Monitoring Resource Groups in Azure

Gain full control over your Azure Resource Groups with Nodinite. This page shows you how to monitor, analyze, and manage Resource Groups, proactively and securely, without relying on the Azure portal.

  • ✅ Instantly detect configuration issues in Resource Groups
  • ✅ Receive proactive alerts through Alarm Plugins and manage monitored groups
  • ✅ Take remote actions to resolve issues fast
  • ✅ Empower teams with secure, role-based access

Stay ahead of issues! Nodinite alerts you to problems in your Resource Groups and provides instant access to details, with no Azure portal required.

Nodinite monitors the configuration and status of your Azure Resource Groups. You can manage which Resource Groups to monitor, receive actionable alerts, and use remote commands to resolve issues quickly. For details on available Remote Actions, see the Managing Resource Group page. The Resource Groups belong to a monitored Subscription; see Monitoring Subscription.

Monitoring Features

  • State Evaluation – Nodinite evaluates the state of each Resource Group according to your defined policy.

If Nodinite can't check your Resource Group items' state, chances are no one else can use them either.

  • Automatic Discovery – The Nodinite Azure Agent uses the Azure REST API to automatically discover Resource Groups.
  • Category-based Monitoring – Group Resources by the Nodinite concept of Categories.
  • Role-Based Access – Share access to individual items using one or more Monitor Views.

State Evaluation for Azure Resource Group

Nodinite presents each monitored Resource Group as a Resource. For example, three Resource Groups appear as three separate Resources in Nodinite.

Each Resource evaluates to a state (OK, Warning, Error, Unavailable). You can override the evaluation by configuring the Expected State for any Nodinite Resource.

Diagram: The agent checks each configured Resource Group (blue, Checking) and reports OK (green) when it's found, Warning (yellow) while its provisioning state isn't Succeeded, Error (red) when provisioning failed, and Unavailable (pink) when it no longer exists in Azure or can't be read.

Azure Resource Group

For the Azure Resource Group Resources, the state evaluates as described in the table below:

State Status Description Actions
🚫 Unavailable Resource not available
  • Log Text Resource group does not exist in Azure, or it is not accessible using client ''
  • The Resource Group was deleted in Azure, or network or security problems stop the agent from reading it
Review prerequisites
❌ Error Provisioning failed Log Text Resource group '' provisioning failed Details
⚠️ Warning Provisioning not finished Log Text … provisioning state is not 'Succeeded' (current: …) Details
✅ OK Resource Group found Empty Log Text Details

Note

The Azure Agent 7.11.3 reports Unavailable and OK. The provisioning Error and Warning come with newer agent versions.

A Resource Group that no longer exists in Azure is reported, not silently dropped: it stays Unavailable while it's checked in the Subscription's Details list, where a red ❌ marks it as missing. A Resource Group you uncheck there has its Resource removed after three sync cycles without it.

When the state is Unavailable, check the App Registration roles and the network path in the Prerequisites.

Alert history for Resource Group

During root cause analysis or other purposes, it might be helpful to understand how often your Resource Group problems happen. If your Monitor View allows it, you can search for historical state changes for the provided time-span, either for all your Resource Groups or individually. The Add or manage Monitor View page details this topic.
