Search log events from a BPM

Start from the business process, not from a list of Log Views. New 7.11 From a Business Process Model (BPM) you search the logged events of that process and see the result next to the BPM, on one page.

  • ✅ Search a business process straight from the BPM Overview
  • ✅ Type the value you look for, such as an order number, with no operators to set up
  • ✅ See the search, the result, and the BPM side by side on a wide monitor

When you need this

You know which business process an order belongs to, say Order-to-Cash, and you want to see how far one order got through its steps. You don't want to look for the right Log View first.

What you need

  • Access to the BPM and to at least one of the Log Views linked to it. Your administrator links Log Views to the BPM and grants access through your Role; see Add or manage BPM.
  • The value to search for, such as an order number or invoice number. The fields you can search on are the Search Fields your administrator has set up in the Log View.

Do it

  1. Open the BPM Overview from the Repository menu. Type part of the name in the filter box to narrow a long list.
  2. Hover the BPM you want and click Search. The search opens in a new page.

The Search button appears when you hover a BPM in the BPM Overview.
  3. If the BPM has more than one Log View, pick the one to search in the dropdown at the top left of the search panel. The dropdown lists only the Log Views linked to this BPM, and only the selected one performs the search.
  4. In Search criteria, type the value to search for, for example the order number. Your administrator may have preset some values; change them if your search needs something else.

Simple mode shows one input per search field, so you only type the value.
  5. Need more control, for example And/Or between conditions or another operator? Turn on Advanced mode. This is the same panel as in a Log View, and the search works the same way.

Advanced mode lets you pick the field and operator, and add clauses and brackets.
  6. Set the date range and click Search.

What you'll see

The page has two parts: the search panel, and a second part with the search result and the BPM. That second part again holds the result and the BPM as two panels. You can rotate both splits between side by side and stacked, so a very wide monitor shows the search, the result, and the BPM at the same time.

Side by side suits a wide monitor: search, result, and BPM in one view.

Stacked suits a narrower screen, or a BPM with many steps.

Pick a row in the result to follow that transaction through the steps of the BPM. Because the search starts from the BPM, the result shows this BPM only. In a grouped Log View, by contrast, every BPM your role can see may match the events.

Waiting for more events to arrive? Click the Timer button and pick how often to repeat the search, in seconds; click Stop in the same list to end it. See Repeat the search with the Timer.

The Timer shows Timer: idle until you pick an interval.

If it doesn't work

  • There is no Search button on the BPM: no Log View is linked to the BPM, or your role can't use any of them. Ask your Nodinite administrator.
  • The result is empty: widen the date range first, then check the value. Or pick another Log View in the dropdown, if the BPM has several.
  • Still stuck? See Support.
