Add or manage C4 Diagram Set
This page defines the lifecycle operations for C4 Diagram Sets in the Repository Model.
Lifecycle operations
| Operation | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Add New Set | Create a new architecture container |
| Edit Set Properties | Maintain set metadata and ownership |
| Import | Bring diagram source into a set |
| Sync | Update set content after source changes |
| View | Open and inspect set content |
| Hard Delete | Permanently remove a set with explicit confirmation |
Governance guidance
Use hard delete only when retention and governance rules allow permanent removal.
For everyday set changes, prefer edit, import, sync, and view workflows.
Scope and mode governance
When setting up or editing a set, treat Architecture Scope as the architectural identity of each diagram.
Use mode intentionally:
- Layered Mode for scope-driven architecture continuity across C4 levels.
- Free Draw for local edits that must not affect other Draft diagrams.
Changing a diagram's scope can re-evaluate inferred navigation and layered relationships.
Manual links remain author-controlled.
Where to perform these actions
- Business and technical users can follow the guided flow in Getting Started: Add or manage C4 Diagram Set.
- Administrators can apply role and governance controls in Administer C4 Diagram Sets.
