Troubleshooting the Nodinite Install and Update Client

If you are reading this, make sure to review the Prerequisites first!

Nodinite has trace logging built-in. Logging is implemented using a rolling log file appender with JSON output. These logs are handy for troubleshooting various issues; our support will always ask for these.

Almost all Nodinite applications emit these wherever installed. However, these files can't be created if the Windows account running the application does not have change/write rights.

If you are missing the diagnostic files, review the How to set Logon as a Service Right user guide.

You can download the diagnostic files as a single ZIP. This topic is further detailed in the Add or manage Monitoring Agent - Diagnostics user guide.

What IIS Authentication settings do I need for the Install and Update Tool?

This topic is in detail in the IIS Authentication settings user guide.

Why are animations not played?

If you are browsing locally on a Windows Server, chances are high that the performance option is either Adjust for best performance or Let Windows choose what's best for my computer. If you have any of these settings, animations are not played using Nodinite version 6 or later. This happens because the Font Awesome 6 package is honouring the Windows settings, and with these settings, animations by default, are turned off.

To resolve this issue, please enable animations by changing the Visual Effects to either Custom (with all animation options checked), or Adjust for best appearance.

  1. Open sysdm.cpl.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Click the Settings button in the Performance panel.
  4. On the Visual Effects tab, choose an option that fits your policy.
