Installing the Nodinite Install and Update Tool
In this guide you will learn how to install the Nodinite Install and Update Tool.
Important
You must be a local administrator to have the right to install Windows Services.
The installation tool has two features and they are individually configured:
- Nodinite Update Windows Service (install on one or more servers)
- Nodinite Update Web Application (install on the IIS server)
Before you begin
Perform the desktop installation and update steps locally on the target server.
- Make sure you comply with the Prerequisites
- Always perform the Installation and Update operation using the latest version of the Nodinite Install and Update Tool.
Installation User Guide
To successfully install the Nodinite Install and Update Tool, follow the steps in this guide.
Step 1: Start the installer
First, double click on the NodiniteUpdate.Installer-5.x.x.x.msi.
Double-click on the MSI file to initiate the installation.
Then, the 'Welcome' screen loads.
Important
UAC may interfere with the first step. Occasionally, users need to launch the MSI from an administrative command prompt or even start the installation using the following command:
msiexec /i NodiniteUpdate.Installer-5.x.x.x.msi
Step 2: Welcome Screen
Click the 'Next' button to continue the installation process or the 'Cancel' button to quit the installer.
Step 3: Select Features
Select the target location and the components to install. Please keep the default settings as it is our recommendation.
- Select to include the Nodinite Update Service. On every server hosting any of the Nodinite Core Services; Include the Windows Service.
- On the server with IIS, include the Nodinite Update Client IIS Application.
Click the 'Next' button to continue the installation process or the 'Cancel' button to quit the installer.
Important
Do note that there are two features, and if you opt to install on another drive, you need to set that drive letter on both features
Step 4: Account Configuration
Enter the credentials for the Account to run the App Pool account AND the Update Service
- Domain: The name of the Domain the Server belongs to. If you use a local account, you can use the name of the server, or a . (dot) in the Domain field.
- Account: The name of the Account to use running the service.
- Password: The password for the Account.
Click the 'Next' button to continue the installation process or the 'Cancel' button to quit the installer.
Step 5: Web Site Selection
Now select on which Web Site to install the Nodinite Update Client IIS Application:

Step 6: Perform Installation
Start the installation by clicking on the 'Install' button or 'Cancel' to quit the installer.
When the setup has finished, the default Client Browser will open the address
http://localhost/NodiniteUpdate/UpdateClient(if the checkbox Open update client is checked).Click the 'Finish' button to Exit, and Quit the installer.
Assign Access Rights
Next, secure the Install and Update Tool instance performing the steps as detailed in the assigning-access-rights user guide.

When the Nodinite Install and Update Tool is installed with the appropriate access rights, the next step is to download the version of Nodinite to install.
Install Nodinite Core Services
The next step is to install a Nodinite instance. You can host multiple instances of Nodinite and manage these with a single Install and Update Tool instance. The Nodinite installation steps exist in the following Install Nodinite user guide.

If your installation fails, you will end up with the an error message like the image below:
In this case, you probably encountered the following problems during the installation process:
If you get this message, the most common reason is that the account is invalid or your user is not allowed to grant other services elevated rights and you're not local Administrator on the server. Follow the guide How to set Logon as a Service right and click retry. If the problem remains, click cancel and restart. Make sure to check, and type the credentials correctly.
