Updating the Mule ESB Monitoring Agent

You can easily install new versions of the Mule ESB Monitoring Agent by running the latest installer. Enjoy enhanced monitoring, security, and performance with every update.

Running Version

You can view the installed version in the 'Version' text box.
Readme.txt
Check the version in the agent's README.txt file.

Alternatively, check the file details property on your local installation:

PreReq: Ensure you have already installed the Nodinite Mule ESB Monitoring Agent. The service account must have Logon as Service Right. See Prerequisites for more details. You must be a local administrator to install or update Windows Services.

Compatibility and versioning issues

  • 4.0 → 4.1
    • Updating from older XML configuration-based versions requires re-configuration
  • 4.1.0.x → 4.1.0.y
    • Additional features may be added—review your settings and affected Monitor Views after updating
    • The Log Text of a Resource now only changes when the state does, reducing unnecessary historical entries
  • 4.X → 5.X: Review Updating from V4 to V5

Update guide

Follow these steps to update the Mule ESB Monitoring Agent.

Step 1: Start the installer

Double-click the MSI file to begin the update process for the Nodinite Mule ESB Monitoring Agent.

Start the update by running the MSI file.

Step 2: Welcome Screen

After launching the MSI, you'll see the Welcome screen.

Click 'Next' to continue or 'Cancel' to exit.

Step 3: Accept EULA

You must accept the EULA before continuing. If you do not accept these terms, you cannot install or update this agent.

Click 'Next' to continue or 'Cancel' to exit.

Step 4: Custom Setup

Select components and the installation location. The default settings are recommended.

Note: If you change the location, your old configuration will be lost.

Click 'Next' to continue or 'Cancel' to exit.

Step 5: Service Account Information

Enter the credentials for the Account that will run the Nodinite Mule ESB Monitoring Agent.

Domain: Name of the domain or use the server name/dot for local accounts
User: Account name
Password: Account password
Domain service account
Enter the service account credentials.

Note: The account must have 'Log on as Service Right'.

Click 'Next' to continue or 'Cancel' to exit.

Insufficient Privileges

If the account does not meet Prerequisites, you will see an error.

The most common cause is the account lacking permission to run as a service or not being a local administrator. Follow How to set Logon as a Service right and click retry. If the issue persists, click cancel and restart. Ensure you enter valid credentials!

Tip: Check the local event log for errors (System and Application).

Step 6: Ready to install

Once preparations are complete, click 'Next' to continue or 'Cancel' to exit.

Files in use

If the Monitoring Agents was already installed and you are performing an update, you may see a dialog about files in use. Select 'Close the applications and attempt to restart them', then click 'Ok'.

Depending on current load and threads in use, the operation may take 0–30 seconds to complete.

Step 7: Completed setup

The last step of the update process will show either a success or a premature exit.

Click 'Finish' to exit the updater.

When setup finishes, your default text editor will open a file named 'README.txt' with additional information to help you manage the agent as a Monitoring Agents.
