Installing the Nodinite Log File Parser Monitoring Agent

Log File Parser Monitoring Agent v7.0.4 and later should be installed using the Nodinite Portal-based scripted installation. This modern approach provides automated installation and configuration with minimal manual intervention.

Deprecated: The MSI-based installation method is legacy and intended only for remote server installations where the Portal-based approach cannot be used. This method is not recommended for new deployments and will be retired in future versions.

Important

Version 7.0.4+ Users: If you are installing Log File Parser Monitoring Agent v7.0.4 or later, use the Portal-based installation method instead. The MSI approach below is for legacy v6 installations or remote servers only.

When to Use MSI Installation

Use this method only if:

  • You are installing on a remote server that cannot be managed via Portal scripts
  • You are maintaining a legacy v6 environment (upgrade to v7 recommended)
  • You have specific infrastructure constraints preventing automated installation

MSI Installation Prerequisites

Before you begin

Ensure you meet the prerequisites before you start.

Note

You must have local administrator rights to install Windows Services.

Step 1: Start the installer

Double-click the MSI file to launch the installation of the Nodinite Log File Parser Monitoring Agent.

Step 2: Welcome Screen

When the MSI file launches, the Welcome screen appears.

Click 'Next' to continue or 'Cancel' to exit the installer.

Step 3: Accept End User License Agreement

Accept the terms in the End User License Agreement to proceed. Make sure you have the formal rights to install and modify the target environment.

Step 4: Custom setup

Select the components you want to install and choose the destination path.

Note

Click 'Next' to continue or 'Cancel' to exit.

Step 5: Service Account Information

Enter the credentials for the Account that will run the Nodinite Log File Parser Monitoring Agent.

  • Domain: Enter the domain name or use the server name/dot (.) for a local account
  • User: Enter the account name
  • Password: Enter the password for the account.

Note

The account must have 'Log on as Service Right'.

Click 'Install' to continue or 'Cancel' to exit.

Insufficient privileges

If the account information does not meet the prerequisites, the installer displays an error message.

The most common reasons include the account not having permission to run as a service or not being a local Administrator. Follow the How to set Logon as a Service right guide and click retry. If the problem persists, click cancel and restart. Always enter valid credentials!

Tip

Check the local event log for errors (both System and Application).

Step 6: Ready to install

When you finish preparations, click 'Next' to continue or 'Cancel' to exit.

Step 7: Completed setup

The final step shows either a success or a premature exit.

Step 8: Add Agent as a new Monitoring Agent Configuration

When setup completes successfully, your default text editor opens a file named 'README.txt'. This file provides additional information you need to add the agent as a Monitoring Agents. The file is [re]generated on each successful start.
