What's the difference between BPM and Monitor Views?
Quick Answer
- A Monitor View is a set of Resources (queues, services, ports, folders) with their current state. It answers "is everything running?" and sends alerts through Alarm Plugins.
- A BPM is a drawing of a business process. Search one order and it plots that order's Log Events on the steps, so it answers "where is this order, and where did it stop?"
They meet on the Services: link a Service in a BPM cell to Resources, and the BPM shows a lightbulb with their worst state, plus Remote Actions if your role allows. See Integrated Monitoring.

Monitor Views read Resource state; a BPM combines it with the Log Events of one transaction.
Key Differences
| Aspect | Monitor View | BPM |
|---|---|---|
| Shows | Selected Resources and their state | Domains, steps, and Services of a process |
| Data | Resource state from Monitoring Agents | Log Events of one interchange, plus Resource state per Service |
| Typical question | "Is the ERP order queue OK?" | "Why didn't order PIC-20261009-1644-0010 get a confirmation?" |
| Colors | Resource state, such as OK, Warning, Error | Steps by Log Status Code of the events; lightbulb by worst Resource state |
| Alerts | Yes, through Alarm Plugins | No; alerting stays in Monitor Views |
| Remote Actions | Yes, with the Execute Action permission | Yes, on the Service's Resources, if your role allows |
| Search a transaction | No | BPM Log Search by Order Number |
| License | Standard License | BPM feature pack; see License Options and Feature Matrix |
Example: Order-to-Cash
In the Order-to-Cash demo, order PIC-20261009-1644-0010 shows Order Received and Order Entry in green, and Confirmation Sent in red. One search from the BPM found it, instead of opening the Portal, ERP, and WMS logs one by one.
- The lightbulb on the Confirmation Sent Service tells you whether the Resources behind it are healthy.
- If the Resource is stopped and your role allows it, start it from the BPM with a Remote Action.
- If the same Resource is in a Monitor View with an Alarm Plugin, the operations team got an alert as well.
Same Resource, two audiences: operations work from the Monitor View, process owners from the BPM.
Common Questions
Does a BPM replace Monitor Views?
No. Alerting lives in Monitor Views; a BPM adds the process and the transaction on top of the same Resources.
Who sees the lightbulb and Remote Actions in a BPM?
Users whose Roles have monitoring access to the linked Resources. Remote Actions need their own permission; in Monitor Views that is Execute Action, see Permission Set for Monitor Views.
Why is a step gray?
No event for that step in this interchange. The lightbulb can still be green: the system is up, but the message never arrived. Non-Events Monitoring alerts on that case.
